Obama Reluctant to Discuss "The Case Microphone"

U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday (11.13.2011), refused to discuss a private conversation that "leak" between him and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In that conversation, Sarkozy called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a liar.

In a conversation caught the microphone which was still in position on the G-20 summit this month in France, Obama also sounded shows how frustrated he was with the Prime Minister of Israel. "In connection with a hot mic in France, I will not comment on conversations I had with the leaders individually," Obama said.

However, at a press conference in Hawaii in the Asia-Pacific Summit, Obama went on to say, he had a conversation that is "fair and firm" with Sarkozy about French support against the Palestinians while joining UNESCO. "I consistently carry the argument that the only way we can solve the situation in the Middle East if Palestinians and Israelis are sitting at the table and negotiate. We are not going to work to try to resolve (the issue) through the United Nations (UN)."

Microphone incident was first reported to a French blog. The incident was later developed into something of an embarrassment for the White House. The incident also became ammunition for political observers who see Obama too hard on Israel and is in danger of losing the support of Jews in the U.S. elections next year.

Private conversations between Obama and Sarkozy was heard a number of reporters after inadvertently sent through the system used for the translation, according to media website sur Arret Images. Sarkozy reportedly told Obama about Netanyahu in French, "I do not take it anymore with him (Netanyahu), he's a liar." Obama replied, "You probably already fed up with him, what about me, I have to deal with him every day."

In another part of that conversation, Sarkozy also called Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, who is no longer in office, as a madman. Labeling Sarkozy was linked Papandreou plan to hold a referendum on whether Greece would accept a bailout from the EU or not. The French president told Obama, "Papandreou madman comes with referendumnya. But, it's because he was depressed so there is no point in giving time about it. He had capitulated. KO!"
