Phobos-Grunt Fall on Sunday Night

Phobos-Grunt, the Russian spacecraft failed to Phobos, moon of Mars, is expected to fall on Sunday (01/15/2012) night around 19:00 pm. Thus the results of prediction Institute of Aeronautics and Space Agency (Lapan).

"These results are based on property USSTATCOM though and we have predicted. We predicted Phobos-Grunt falls on January 15 evening at seven, but was plus or minus 30 hours," said Dani Tiar, researchers Solar and Space Lapan.

Keep in mind that what is meant here is not falling down to Earth, but re-entry into Earth's atmosphere. Phobos-Grunt is said to fall when entering the altitude of 122 km, called the critical height.

"When we go to altitude, then an interval of less than an hour, Phobos-Grunt will burn, burst, and eventually fell to Earth," he said when contacted Tiar Kompas.com, Friday (13/01/2012).

Prediction is done by instruments Track-It, which was developed specifically to monitor space junk that passes under the Indonesia region 200 km altitude. Prediction this time last prediction update stating that the Phobos-Grunt will fall on Monday (1/16/2012).

"Based on the predictions, Phobos-Grunt is expected to fall in the Indian Ocean. However, Indonesia still safe territory. The Indian Ocean region is much closer to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula," said Tiar.

However, people are suggested to remain vigilant. There is also potential for Phobos-Grunt fell in parts of Indonesia. As is known, in the period January 9 to 20, 2012, Phobos-Grunt through the territory of Indonesia.

Tiar reveals, when people heard explosions and saw something fall are encouraged not to touch the object. Phobos-Grunt garbage have harmful chemicals that can damage the skin.

Communities are encouraged to report to Lapan if later on Phobos-Grunt spacecraft crashed in Indonesia. If garbage destroying citizens, then citizens are entitled to compensation from the Russian side with the first report to Lapan.

Dani said, Lapan continue to monitor the waste space with Track-It. "The amount of space junk that passes through Indonesia and Track-It detected a maximum of 10 per minute. But, usually they are burned in the atmosphere," said Tiar.

What is the big deal with this failed space mission? It failed, the Soyuz program has sucked for quite a while now and the probe was gonna fall to Earth. Big deal. This is not news to be shown continuously on TOI for 5 days.
